Harbour View, Reno in tough contest

Paul A. Reid, Staff Reporter

WESTERN BUREAU -

DEFENDING champions Harbour View, flush from their three-game sweep in the recent CONCACAF Club Championships will take on Reno in the feature game of the National Premier League at the Frome Sports Groundds in Westmoreland starting at 3 p.m. today.

Harbour View and Reno are tied on 13 points each, one behind leaders Waterhouse and one ahead of fourth place Tivoli Gardens.

There will also be a doubleheader at Jarrett Park where ninth-placed Wadadah (six points) host eighth-placed Arnett Gardens (seven points) in the 5:00 p.m. curtainraiser and seventh-placed Seba United (eighth points) and sixth-placed Hazard (eighth points) meet in the 7:00 p.m. game.

The big game will however be at Frome where the home team was beaten in its last outing, 1-0 by Waterhouse, and will be gunning for revenge.

The loss, Reno's second at home from four game, knocked them out of the lead and all the way down to third place. Ironically, Reno have not lost on the road all season but need to pull out all the stops today if they are to beat the defending champions and return to the top two.

The Westmoreland team will be depending on the experience of midfielders Dean Folkes, Aldane Bailey and Steve Malcolm against a confident Harbour View.

Jermaine Hue has been in great form this season and he could make the difference today when he teams with Daniel Shaw and Damion Stewart.

Reno have been the more potent of the two teams in the goal-scoring department with 15 goals spread evenly among the team including two (penalties) from goalkeeper Aaron Lawrence.

Newcomers Derval Fraser and Garfield Edmundson along with the experienced Folkes and Michael Graham will lead the Reno attack against Harbour View's defence that has given up just five goals all season.

Reno's worry is at the other end where they have given up 10 goals, despite the presence of national goalkeeper Lawrence.

Fabian Taylor, Shaw, Hue, Mark Miller, Carl Binger and Ali Rose are all quality players and will make the suspect Reno defence work overtime.
