Frome, Munro advance to daCosta Cup semi-finals

WESTERN BUREAU -

FROME Technical pulled off the upset of the first set of matches in the quarter-finals of the daCosta Cup yesterday with a 2-1 win over Holmwood Technical at Woodside.

It was the first loss of the season for Holmwood while Frome joined former champions Munro College in the lead in Group Two. Munro were also winners, edging Garvey Maceo 1-0 at Alpart.

St. Thomas Technical are the leaders in Group One after beating Dinthill Technical 1-0 at Eastern Bananas while the feature game between Cornwall College and Clarendon College ended in a 1-1 stalemate.

The game at Jarrett Park was one of the most exciting and competitive seen all season with both teams missing penalties.

Garrick Gordon gave Cornwall the lead after 27 minutes but Aaron Jackson's strike in the 51st minute ensured a point for Clarendon College.

While the first half was scrappy, the second half made up for it with quality play from both teams.

Clarendon appeared to tire late in the game when Cornwall created a number of chances but goalkeeper Ordeava Guy, who started in place of the suspended Allien Whittaker, rose to the occasion each time.

RESULTS

  • Clarendon College 1 Cornwall College 1

  • St. Thomas Technical 1 Dinthill 0

  • Frome 2 Holmwood 1

  • Munro 1 Garvey Maceo 0
