Cops promoted

SIX SENIOR Superintendents of Police (SSPs) are among several policemen and women promoted to Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACPs) on Monday, in one of the biggest set of promotions in the history of the Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF).

The SSPs promoted are Reginald N. Grant in charge of the Organised Crime Investigation Unit; Winston Williams in charge of the Services Branch; Jasper A. Jones in charge of Area Five; SSP Lebert A. Lawrence in charge Operations; Lindel U. Bell in charge of Mobile Reserve Division, and Arthur R. Martin in charge of Area Four.

The Constabulary Communication Network (CCN) said the promotions bring to 825, the number of policemen and women elevated for this year. Earlier this year, Commissioner of Police Francis Forbes promoted a number of rank and file policemen and women across divisions and departments islandwide.

"It's the largest rank and file promotion I have ever seen ,"a source said last night, adding that they were unable to compare the number of gazetted officers promoted this time but said the number of them promoted was "very large".

Ten Superintendents have been promoted to SSPs and these include Acting SSP Reneto Adams who was recently put in charge of the Anti-Crime Management Unit, Superintendent of Police (SP) Dudley Bryan in charge of the Traffic Division, and Superintendent Mary Royes-Henry, commandant of the Jamaica Police Academy.

Fifteen Deputy Superintendents of Police (DSPs) have been promoted, and these include DSP Glen Hudson, in charge of the Kingston Western Division, and DSP Artice Brown-Getton in charge of the Rape Investigation Unit.

Forty four inspectors have been promoted to DSPs while 105 sergeants have been promoted to inspectors. Among those elevated to DSPs are head of the Police Federation Inspector Michael James and his deputy Inspector Assan Thompson.

The CCN was in for another round of promotions yesterday when Inspector Paul Stanton, its St. James liaison officer was promoted to DSP.

Sergeant Victor Henry, operations manager at CCN, Sergeant Myrna Rose-Gardener, CCN's St. Catherine North liaison officer, and liaison officer for Portland Sergeant George Flash, have all been promoted to Inspectors.
