Bennett, Kaydian win titles

HECTOR Bennett and Kaydian Carney won the men's and women's singles titles the 2000 Jamaica National Building Society's table tennis tournament on Sunday at the University of Technology.

In a re-match of the national final in July, Bennett enjoyed sweet revenge over Christopher Marsh in a thrilling five-setter and it was the same story in the women's final where Carney put away Chantelle McLennon.

Bennett, based in the United States, clipped Marsh 21-19, 16-21, 21-18, 15-21, 23-21 while Carney recovered from a set down to defeat McLennon 14-21, 21-15, 19-21, 22-20, 21-16.

Other results: Men's B - Robert Gabay defeated Rodney Beckles 21-18, 21-15; men's C - Barry Parkes defeated Richard Lee 21-8, 21-19; veterans - Bennett defeated Altamont Henry 21-14, 21-19; Women's B - Denise Gayle defeated Janniel Dawson 21-12, 21-11.

Girls Under 21 - Nina Burton defeated Chantelle McLennon 21-18, 22-20, 18-21, 19-21, 21-18; Girls Under 17 - Burton defeated McLennon 14-21, 22-20, 24-22; Boys Under 21 - Darryl Strachan defeated David Strachan 21-14, 21-7, 18-21, 21-10; Boys Under 17 - Darryl Strachan defeated Alphanso Murray 21-15, 21-14, 21-5.

Boys Under 15 - Andre Hart defeated Kane Watson 21-18, 23-21; Girls Under 15 - Janniel Dawson defeated Jodian Adams 21-14, 21-18; Boys Under 13 - Sheldon Watson defeated Kristopher Yen 21-9, 21-16; Girls Under 13 - Sherraine Brown defeated Carla Clarke 21-14, 21-9; Boys Under 11 - Kristopher Yen defeated Janoi Thompson 21-12, 18-21, 21-10; Girls Under 11 - Jannelle Morris defeated Sharlene Carr 21-18, 21-15.
