Capleton lights 'fire' in Bahamas

Capleton

BACKED BY the power of prophecy and buoyed by one of the more inspired introductions he had ever experienced, incendiary DJ Capleton transformed the Bahamas National Stadium into a sea of fire last Saturday night.

Capleton bounced on stage in the wake of a most powerful call to action from MC Big A of IRIE-FM. Leaping to the strains of Jah City and 'The Prophet' opened a one-and-half-hour set that was marked by a staccato delivery of hot tunes and five encores.

The large crowd roared and illuminated the night sky as 'The Prophet' launched into such hits as Critic, Crazy, Look Good In Her Clothes, Slew Dem, St. Mary Mi Come From, buttressed by a string of other popular numbers from the Capleton catalogue.

Capleton was preceded by Lady Saw whose performance was as witty as it was risque.

Madd Cobra demonstrated just why he is still so popular with an energetic performance, which saw him inviting female members of the audience to come on stage and do the latest dance with him. In a presentation, which included Yush, Done Wife and Flex, Cobra touched a chord with his Bahamian audience.

As if to forge a musical trinity from St. Mary, Admiral Tibet stamped his class on the Down Sound Records event. Admiral Tibet is revered in those parts and he did not disappoint. Armed with a string of his standards including Leave People Business Alone, Don't Try To Dig Me Girl, An Di War Between Mi And Babylon, Tibet showed why he occupies such an esteemed position among reggae acts.

Tibet brought on his long-time friend, Michael Fabulous, who scored a few years ago with the song No Mercy For The Merciless.

While the foregoing elements would have made the show, dubbed 'The Resurrection', a truly memorable one, there was more. Risto Benjy, best remembered as Shabba Ranks' sidekick, brought his career back to life with a performance which seemed to even surprise him.

Benjy gave the crowd some of the more famous numbers from his repertoire, including Gimme Di Money and the notorious Passport Bxxx. His 'reaction' to the current Patchy/General B bit, The Business drew thunderous applause.

Down Sound Records must be commended for a job well done.

Bling Dawg, whose Circumstance with Beenie Man, is all the rage, is on a high following the successful 'Delano's Revenge', which took place over the weekend at the Caymanas Country Club.

Everyone is talking about the thunderous response which greeted Bling Dawg's brief appearance at the event.

The crowd just would not give him a chance to say much more than "If yuh nuh like Bling Dawg..." before drowning him out with their approval.
