Lecturer on effective conduct of global business coming

International strategist Dr. Paul G. Simmonds, will share techniques for the effective conduct of global business through the simulation of the take-over of a multinational corporation. The exercise , scheduled for November 13 to 15, is being sponsored by the Management Institute for National Development (MIND0 at its Hope Road campus.

In explaining the concept of the exercise, Mrs. Maria Jones, MIND's chief executive officer, said that the simulation will allow participants to plan and implement an important strategy commonly employed in the global business arena, without the accompanying risks. She pointed out that the participants will, however, be made fully aware of the repercussions of their decisions.

The programme which targets business leaders and decision makers, has several objectives. These include teaching individuals how to operate effectively in the global market; exposing participants to various environmental, ethical and social responsibility issues; assisting participants to develop logical and rational decision making skills and providing opportunities for interaction in organisational teamwork.

Simulation exercise

A lecturer in International Strategic Management at Florida State University (FSU), Dr. Simmonds administers the Global Business Simulation Exercise for that University's Executive Management Programme. Prior to joining the staff at FSU, Dr. Simmonds held academic positions at Rutgers University, the National University of Singapore; Florida A & M University and Old Domi-nion University. He has also had a successful career in corporate America, having held managerial positions at Scott Paper Company, Monsanto Company, TRW Inc. and Ford Aeronautics.

MIND delivers a wide range of training programmes for management-level employees. The Institute was established in 1994 from the amalgamation of five government entities which had been training public servants for over 30 years. As the principal training institution for the public sector, MIND is an integral part of the Government's Public Sector Modernisation Programme (PSMP), designed to strengthen the effectiveness of the public sector. Following MIND's upgrading to an executive agency in 1999, its services are now also available to the private sector. (Taken from the Sunday Gleaner)
