The poor and media bias

THE EDITOR, Madam:

IT IS amazing that whenever anything is to be done for poor people it attracts very negative comment from the mass media. The most recent example is the headline 'Spending Spree'.

This is in response to the announcement by the Prime Minister that $200m is to be allocated for a public works programme and for the provision of indigent housing.

When billions are being forked out for insurance companies and banks there is no problem. When the national airline is perpetually being rescued no problem. But when a miniscule fraction of these rescue packages are spent on public works we have all these negative headlines.

Talk about media bias!

I am, etc.,
