Albert Huie to launch book about his life

A BOOK featuring the life and works of artist Albert Huie, recognised among Jamaica's foremost landscapists, is scheduled to be launched on Thursday at the Devon House Grog Shoppe.

The launch of the book, titled Albert Huie: Father of Jamaican Painting, is set to coincide with an opening of an exhibition of 25 paintings selected from the book, to be featured at the Devon House great house. That exhibition is scheduled to from December 1-23.

The book has been produced in celebration of Mr. Huie's 80th birthday and in commemoration of a career that has spanned more than 60 years, a career which began with his emergence to the burgeoning nationalist movements of the period.

The book is written by Edward Lucie-Smith and illustrated in full colour with 69 paintings from Mr. Huie's oeuvre.
