St. Anne's, KC in Walker Cup final

Kingston College's Theodore Washington (left) is challenged by Tivoli's Roland Dean during their Walker Cup semi-final KO at Ferdie Neita Park yesterday. KC won 4-3 on penalties.

NORTH Street kingpins Kingston College (KC) reached their second schoolboy football final of the season when they defeated Tivoli Comprehensive High 4-3 on penalties in the feature semi-final match of a doubleheader at Ferdie Neita Park, Portmore yesterday.

KC advance to the final with St. Anne's High who recorded a 2-1 win over Donald Quarrie in the second semi-final.

Coach of KC, Stratton Palmer said despite the victory his team still played below par.

"It's always a good feeling to reach the final even though the Walker Cup is a consolation, but again we made an easy game difficult," Palmer said.

"We left it to penalties but this is not good enough. It was difficult to motivate them for the Walker Cup after losing the Manning Cup final (3-1 to Norman Manley Comprehensive)," he said.

The penalty scorers for the 'Purples' were captain Adrian Lewis, Everette Walker, Brian McCarthy and Mario Swaby.

The scorers for Tivoli, who failed to defend their Manning Cup title after faltering in the second round, were Roland Dean, lanky Kemar Bell and goalkeeper Jermaine Simpson.

Shots from Orane Simpson and Denroy Gordon went into the hands of KC's goalkeeper Marvin Anderson to dash Tivoli's chances.

KC looked the more purposeful team, especially in midfield, but the forwards were always off target - even in extra-time when Tivoli were down to 10 men after Jermaine Taylor was sent off for a bad tackle on KC's Roderick Brown.

"Disappointing," said the coach of Tivoli, Dave Clarke. "When you consider how the team played today with 10 men ... I think they deserved some praise," he said.

In the second match, goals from Othneil Robinson (10th minute) and Nicolas Williams (26th minute) saw St. Anne's through. Jermaine Rowe converted for Donald Quarrie in the 54th minute.
