IF YOU think about getting involved in criminal activity in the Red Hills area of St. Andrew, be prepared to encounter the 'Long' arm of the law.
Detective Constable David Long is one of the most visible policemen in the area and he's not only known for his crime fighting exploits, but also his entertainment endeavours.
Det. Constable Long is a budding singer and while he has no immediate plans to give up his career as a police officer, he's also determined to be a successful entertainer. He performs under the stage name 'Seneta' and is in demand for weddings, parties and other social events in the Red Hills area.
Det. Constable Long has done several recordings for Binggae Records, located at Kirkland Heights, which he hopes will get him into the spotlight.
"Although everybody knows that I am a policeman, they still show appreciation for me as a singer. My entertainment career helps me to connect better with the people I serve.
"When I go to a dance and am singing on stage, the people in the audience are those with whom I have to interact during my daily routine and that makes it special," he said.
Det. Constable Long says he believes the police force should encourage its members to pursue their artistic ambitions and to express whatever talents they have.
"This does not have to interfere with your police work, but it is not good to suppress your talents," he told Showbiz.
Det. Constable Long says he loves his job so much, he would be hard-pressed to make a choice between his careers as a policeman and a performer if he had to make a decision.
He writes his own material and has a leaning to romance and culture. The policeman grew up in Stony Hill where he began to explore a music career in the church. He is also a competent musician, playing the drums, guitar and keyboards.
