Scholarly research needed

THE EDITOR, Madam:

DR. CAROLYN COOPER is reported to have pronounced on the subject of Jamaican women's sexuality in Dancehall, at the Caribbean Music Expo 2000 ("Culture and Eroticism in Music", The Gleaner, December 4). As she has since failed to disown these statements, we conclude that she was truly represented and that her presentation had little scholarly content.

The role of women in Dancehall is an important cultural issue that needs to be properly investigated, not

represented by 'enlightened input'. We hope that scholars such as anthropologists who have the skills for these types of investigations, will research these matters to give us substantial findings so as to increase our understanding of our society.

I am etc.,
