King Pele is the greatest!

Pele

THE EDITOR, Madam:

All who love football and have a strong passion for the sport will not agree with the recent comparison between Pele and Diego Maradona. We know for certain the two best players ever are from the Americas. We are also comprehensively aware that there is only one true genius and magician in the sport. This is none other than Edson Anantes do Nascimento (Pele); simply the Pearl. The rest of the world adored him as the king.

Because of Pele's humility and commanding power in his personality and leadership qualities, he was declared a national asset of Brazil. One stipulation was he could not play "soccer" outside of Brazil, until his national duties were over. He led Brazil to two World Cup titles, and played in four. He scored well over 1,000 goals in his career. He was the success and joy of Santos Football Club.

Maradona may be a skilful and more flamboyant, but he lacked the discipline and courage of a Pele. Maradona is leagues behind Pele in footballing accomplishments. The coaches and officials who voted for Pele knew precisely what impact the man had on world football.

I am, etc.
