Beenie Man named 'DJ Of The Century'

Beenie Man

BEENIE MAN has been named 'DJ of the Century' by Gibbons Production, promoters of Teensplash, now in its 10th year.

The presentation was made at recently held Teensplash at Wynter's Park, St. Catherine.

The inscription on the plaque presented by Stacey Beckford, of Gibbons Production, read in part: "the heights that Moses Davis reached and kept was not attained by sudden flight, but he while his companions slept was toiling upwards through the night".

In receiving the award, Beenie Man said "Thank you" and went straight into his performance which included Straight Prison and Circum-stances a combination with Bling Dawg.

Excellent performances came from Mr. Vegas, Hawkeye and Alozade who teamed up as a trio and had the place virtually on fire with hundreds of lighters ablaze for the 15 minutes they were on stage.

Alozade kicked off the presentation with favourites such as More Woman and Nut Pet Aal, then Hawkeye scored big with Twingy Twang. Mr. Vegas only had to start the punch line of Head's High for the girls to rush to hold onto him.

Ricky Rudy, aka Bling Dawg, came on stage with a towel hanging from his back pocket as part of his rude boy image. DJ sensation Cecile did a much better performance than at 'Sting 2000', but could have been better if she had Danny English or Elephant Man with her on stage.

The older Shocking Vibes Crew of Devonte, Tanto Metro, Snaggy Puss, gave favourable support, so too did young acts such as UK Worries, who just turned 17 and Shad-du.

Other rising stars which showed quality of performance included Hitman Wally who got several encores and the well- organised Potential Crew who appeared in army fatigue outfits.

MC for the show was comedian Sammy Question and Bagga Brown.
