Alpheus Lawrence

THE EDITOR, Madam:

I AM desperately trying to find my father, Alpheus Lawrence. My father emigrated to the UK in the 1960s to join his father, also called Alpheus. They settled in Birmingham in the West Midlands region of England. During the mid-1960s Alpheus met my mother, Veronica Delores Scott. They were to marry. However, before my birth in May 1967, the relationship had already broken down and the marriage never actually took place.

Unfortunately, apart from the knowledge that he served an apprenticeship with the Royal Air Force and left to take up employment with the engineering firm, GKN, my trail goes cold. I believe that he may have returned to Jamaica in the late 1960s or 1970s.

I have never met my father, although, he is aware of my existence. I have no intention of intruding on my father's life and fully appreciate that he may have put this part of his past behind him. However, if there is any way that he could be located and word of my existence be got to him in such a way as not to disrupt or intrude on his life I would be eternally grateful.

I am etc.,

PAULA SCOTT
