Custos Wilson to be buried next week

WESTERN BUREAU:

HANOVER CUSTOS Phillip B. Wilson, who died a week ago after a short illness at the Tony Thwaites Wing of the University Hospital of the West Indies in Kingston, will be buried next Wednesday.

The format of the service will be family oriented, according to Calvin G. Brown, project officer in the Office of the Prime Minister (Western Region) who is helping to plan the funeral.

The funeral will take place at the Lucea United Church where the late Custos was a member for a number of years and will begin at 2:00 p.m. and interment will be at the Lucea cemetery.

Custos Wilson, who was popularly called "Try-Me", died on Christmas Eve after suffering a mild stroke while at work three weeks ago. He was 70.

Mr. Wilson who was inducted as Custos on March 23, 1999, replaced Percival Miller who retired in January of that year.

The Governor-General, Sir Howard Cooke, and Prime Minister P. J. Patterson will head the list of officials expected to be in attendance. Other parish Custodes and Justices of the Peace will be there.

The parish office of the Social Development Commi-ssion (SDC) in collaboration with the Hanover Parish Council will give the people of Hanover an opportunity to sign a condolence book in memory of the late Custos which will be open to the public this morning at the Lucea Town Hall.

The book will be open daily until next Tuesday between 10:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m.

"We are doing this in honour of the life and work of a great man who was a people person ... I know Hanoverians would want to pay their last respects by putting something in writing that will bring comfort to his family," said Lurline HoSang, SDC parish co-ordinator.
