Black Stars meet lowly Brazil

WESTERN BUREAU -

ST. ANN teams Brazil and Black Stars will meet this afternoon at Drax Hall in a rescheduled National A League return round game at 3:00.

The game was scheduled for December 31 but was postponed because of heavy rain in the Ocho Rios area.

Both teams have another game outstanding. The Black Stars/Galaxy match which was scheduled for Sunday will be replayed while the competitions committee of the Jamaica Football Federation will decide on the Rockfort versus Brazil game that was not played on January 7.

Maximum points will be crucial to the teams for different reasons today as they have gone in different directions this season. Brazil are struggling in 10th place on 16 points, two above the relegation zone while Black Stars are in the thick of the fight for a semi-final place.

Black Stars have gone unbeaten in five matches and have scored wins over leaders Village and joint third place Violet Kickers, both at Drax Hall, while Brazil have not won in five games, dating back to the end of the first round.

Brazil, who were lucky to come away with a 1-1 draw in their game against Central Link on Sunday, have strengthened their team with the inclusion of a number of players from other clubs and a number of schoolboys. They will however be relying on veterans such as Peter Johnson, Kazuka Warren, Donovan McKoy and goalkeeper Gregory Palmer.

Despite their lowly placing in the league, Brazil have one of the better goals-for totals with 24 but getting by one of the best defences in the league this afternoon might pose a problem.

Black Stars have allowed only 11 goals in 17 games, marginally better than Village and Galaxy, the top two teams in the league.
