Watch out for 'con men'

THE EDITOR, Madam:

Yet another scam artist is in our midst. This time, he masquerades as a garbage collector (sideman), claiming to have just been attacked by a gang (in your neighbourhood) or the other story I've heard him weep about is his ailing relative who needs urgent medical attention. Both woeful stories lead up to his desperate request for money.

Seems harmless enough, yes, but then why would he climb on the side of my house to heist himself up to my bedroom window? This very fidgety, fast-talking intruder was searched as he hurriedly exited my neighbour's yard and was in possession of $850. He was chased away from the area by a group of gardeners and warned not to return.

Citizen associations and neighbourhood watches need to be aware of these "thieves or con men". He has plagued the Barbican and Liguanea areas and may encroach on your territory next. Please advise your children, spouses and housekeepers of this crook, for their own safety. We must pull together as citizens of this country to restore confidence and a safe haven for all.

I am, etc.,

MRS. C. YOUNG
