Letter of the Day 'Mutty' Perkins, the 'Pied Piper'

THE EDITOR, Madam:

CECIL GUTZMORE has neatly wrapped 'Mutty' Perkins in a fitting title with his commentary on Jan 29. Perkins' continuous and baseless onslaught of present and past UWI family members mimic the attitude of a child that was scolded sometime in the past and is tasting revenge "chucky-style".

Not being a psychologist myself I am at sea as to the genesis of Mutty's disgust with that portion of our population that seeks progress through education.

In the same breath I hasten to say that his intentions, cynical as they strike, may be (in his little world) his fight to make Jamaica a better place. Mutty has the potential to be an excellent leader but suffers from his own fishbowl effect of being self-taught. The altitude of his self-education is nothing less than remarkable, the flipside to which is even more dangerous as you could be navigating your opinion off the edge because you allow no one to show you the other side.

The perpetual misdirection of Jamaicans that are not able to think for themselves sets the stage for confusion in a volatile society. The director of such an act provides no constructive solution to the spewing of omni-directional malice. Such are the ills of the freedom of speech.

As the Jamaican "Pied Piper", I do hope that Mutty has a positive encounter with the Father before it's too late as he leads our people, head high, blowing his trumpet of criticism, because the chasm of chaos looms only a few steps away.

I am etc.,
