PERF's anti-crime ideas can work but...

THE EDITOR, Madam:

THE PERF IN their recommendations to reduce crime in Jamaica, propose some radical changes. I being a former policeman, know that most of them will work, but they will never be implemented.

Most police do not like outside intervention, because they think they are doing a good job with limited resources. Yes that is true, but this is a changing world where the criminals are always ahead of the police.

Not to ruffle any feathers, I will only speak on one of the recommendations plea bargaining. That would reduce the court backlog, saving time, money and allowing the court staff and police to take care of other pressing matters. Community services, court cost, classes for the offenders and taking responsibilities for their action are also good recommendations.

I am etc.,
