Village, D. Park meet in feature

WESTERN BUREAU -

LEADERS Village United and third placed Duhaney Park will meet in this afternoon's feature game of the National A League at the Elleston-Wakeland Youth Centre in Falmouth at 3:00.

A minute of silence will be observed before the start of the game in honour of the late Steven Malcolm who was killed in a car accident on Sunday.

Despite losing two of their past three games, Village are still on course for a semi-final place while Duhaney Park should also book their place.

Second placed Galaxy, who will be home to ninth placed Rockfort at Clarendon Park, fourth placed Violet Kickers who are away at the Prison Oval to eighth placed Central Link and fifth placed Black Stars who will be away to 12th placed Mile Gully are all well set to advance.

Sixth placed Maverley/Hughenden, who face a tough test at 10th placed Brazil, Rivoli, who drew a bye this round, and Central Link are also in with shots of making it to the semis.

Meanwhile, five teams are battling to avoid relegation. Last placed St. Georges United and 11th placed Jamaica Defence Force (JDF) will meet in a relegation battle at Lynch Park in Buff Bay. Twelfth placed Mile Gully will be home to Black Stars.

Most attention however will be at the Elleston-Wakeland Centre where Village have dropped four points from two drawn games and have scored 29 of their league leading 43 goals.

After failing to score against the Violet Kickers defence in their last outing, the Village strike force of Teofore Bennett, Fabian Dawkins, Shane Crawford and Fitzroy McIntosh will be on red alert against the third placed team.

The odds will be decidedly in favour of the home team as Duhaney Park have won only three times on the road this season and will be hard pressed to be the first away team to win at Elleston-Wakeland this season.

Duhaney Park will not be pushovers however as they have the firepower to create an upset. The skillful Jomo Gordon, Derrick Smith, Dwight Gordon and Lavangar Spencer will give the Village defence, led by captain Mark Williams, all the work it can handle.
