MP calls Falmouth filthy

Stewart

FALMOUTH, Trelawny:

MEMBER OF Parliament for North Trelawny Wendell Stewart, in a stinging attack on his political colleagues, has called his capital town of Falmouth one of the filthiest.

In his caustic attack on the Parish Council, he told The Gleaner that he was "disgusted with the do-nothing approach and attitude of the Council and those responsible for sanitation".

The MP said the Council lacked vision and forward thinking by refusing to involve people who are willing to help. He declared that one truck cannot effectively clean the entire parish and he called on Western Parks and Markets (WPM) to increase the number of trucks for this task.

"There are plenty of anti-litter acts on the books but to my knowledge not one person has been brought to book for the offense of littering although the town is strewn with garbage, especially in the business community," he said.

Mr. Stewart called on the Parish Council to demand that all commercial businesses establish a garbage holding area instead of using the streets. The MP noted that the municipality is not doing enough to stop the littering of streets.
