THE EDITOR, Madam:
WHILE ON my latest trip to Negril I noticed once again a sight I had seen on several of my previous trips: a small compact car made by Excel Motors called the Island Cruzer. I had on previous trips noticed this car and this trip I inquired about a chance to rent one.
After some inquiries I found the owner at the Blue Cave Castle on the West End of Negril, Mr. Patrick Marzouca. I was informed that his car was one of six prototypes. After a close-up look and a chance to take it for a spin I was hooked. I told him that I hope that he is able to begin some type of full-scale production of these remarkable cars.
What an opportunity for the island of Jamaica. For far too long when people thought of Jamaica all they think of is reggae and ganja! How grand it would be if soon they could think of something that is produced and exported to the other islands.. a car!
I for one think that this vehicle could be something for the island as a whole to rally behind. I hope the Government is as farsighted as Mr. Marzouca. Just think.. A car made in Jamaica, by Jamaicans, for Jamaicans. It seems that the island of Jamaica economically could reap huge benefits with the exporting and production of such a vehicle.
I will return to Jamaica next year, and I truly hope to be able to see progress in this fantastic endeavour.
I am etc.,
ROSCOE C WOODS Jr.
