Henry-Wilson to replace Douglas

MAXINE HENRY-WILSON, general secretary of the People's National Party, is to replace Easton Douglas as candidate for the St. Andrew South West seat in Parliament in the next general election, a party insider said last night.

As a first step, Henry-Wilson, Senator and Infor-mation Minister, has been named chairman of the PNP's constituency organisation, a clear sign that she will contest the seat.

Douglas, a former En-vironment and Housing Minister, was dropped from Prime Minister Patterson's reshuffled Cabinet early last year.

"To the best of my knowledge, as of yesterday (Sunday), she is now the chairman for the South East St. Andrew constituency," a source told The Gleaner last night.

"The indication I would draw from all of this is if the general secretary of the party has been named as the chairman of a constituency I have absolutely no reason to believe that the general secretary will not be the candidate". He added, "You just don't name your general secretary as a constituency chairman idly".

As to a replacement for Mrs Henry-Wilson, the party insider said there would likely be no need for one to be elected before a general election and she is elected MP.
