Another slain youth identified

ANOTHER OF the seven young men who were shot dead by the police in Braeton, St. Catherine, on Wednesday morning, was identified yesterday morning by his sister.

He was identified as Dane Whyte, 19, labourer, of 1013 Seal Way, Phase III, Braeton, St. Catherine, Det. Inspector Michael Phipps told The Gleaner.

Det. Inspector Phipps of the St. Catherine North Police Division, said the police were still waiting on relatives to identify the other two bodies.

Four others were identified on Wednesday as Christopher Grant, 17, a Calabar High School dropout; Ronald "Reagan" Beckford, 15, a dropout from Greater Portmore Comprehensive High School; Andre Virgo, 19, and Tamoya Wilson, 20.

The seven were killed during a raid early Wednesday morning by members of the Crime Manage-ment Unit, led by Senior Supt. Reneto Adams.

The police said they had gone to a house on Seal Way in Braeton as they investigated several crimes. They said they ordered the occupants to get out of the house, but instead, the occupants shot at them. The police said they fired back and the seven men were later found with gunshot wounds. They were pronounced dead at hospital.

The police account of the incident has been disputed by some residents of the area.
