Baltimore and Gretel McDonald - contributed
ALTHOUGH Baltimore and Gretel McDonald belong to two different churches, it has never separated them in their 47 years of marriage.
"We don't let it get between us. It is not a problem because we believe the same thing," Mr. McDonald told THE WEEKEND STAR. "I don't have any regrets if I have to do it over I wouldn't change a thing."
Mrs. McDonald is a member of the Full Truth Church of God on Shortwood Road, Kingston 8, and Mr. McDonald attends the Emmanuel Gospel Hall on Broadleaf Road in Kingston 11.
Mr. McDonald, who got married on June 17, 1953, said he attended the Full Truth Church of God but left 20 years ago. The couple from Robin Road, off Woodpecker Avenue, said when they had children they started to attend church at Broadleaf Road because it was closer to home.
So to accompany the children to church, Mr. McDonald decided to change his place of worship. "We get on fine. The churches are like the same, the doctrine is not that different from each other," Mr. McDonald said.
Mr. McDonald is an usher at his church and before that he sang on the choir. Mrs. McDonald also said she sang on the choir and is now an officer at her church.
Mr. McDonald, 73, is more outspoken than his 75-year-old wife, who during the interview said very little except when making a funny remark. He said they met in church in the early 1950s.
"She was attending the Full Truth Church of God when I met her," he said. McDonald said a friend invited him to the church when he met his future wife. After courting for about two years the McDonalds got married in style. "It was a lovely wedding, it was very nice," Mrs. McDonald said.
Their union has produced eight children, four girls and four boys, and they have 11 grandchildren.
