MCA to distribute for Shaggy's Big Yard Music

Shaggy

By Andrew Clunis, Freelance Writer

SUCCESS BREEDS success. And as Shaggy's multi-platinum-selling album Hot Shots and the singles It Wasn't Me and Angel are still knocking the boots off greater recording stars, Shaggy's entrepreneurial skills are looking to take on new dimensions.

MCA Records, to which the Jamaican artiste is signed, has now signed a distribution deal with the Big Yard Music Group, a label he and manager Robert Livingston founded.

Under the terms of the distribution deal, Big Yard/MCA will soon release albums by red hot singers Rik Rok and Rayvon, both of whom played critical roles in the global success of the singles mentioned earlier.

Both artistes are hard at work completing their solo debuts, due later this spring with Rayvon's debut single, 'Chronic' slated for release next month.

Other artistes in the Big Yard/MCA roster include Prince Mydas, Craaft and Marsha. Prince Mydas and Marsha have also contributed significantly to Shaggy's success. Prince Mydas appears on the Hot Shot album on the single Hope which was also featured on the soundtrack of the movie For Love Of The Game.

Marsha appeared with Shaggy on the single Piece Of My Heart which made it to the top 10 of the British Charts. Both Prince Mydas and Marsha are also working on their solo albums.

"What's happening here is a team effort. Everybody is contributing to everybody. It's the formula for our success. Shaggy is just the front man, but there is a whole lot of us who make this happen and Big Yard has an extremely talented group of artistes who we are taking places," said Shaggy.

He said he now views himself as a leader among Jamaican artistes and would like to impart as much of his formulae for success to other artistes where possible.

"I am available to share what I have learnt. Those who want to learn will seek the knowledge and will use it," said the ultra successful artiste.
