Honouring veterans

This year's "Western Consciousness," scheduled for the Llandilo Cultural Centre, Sav-La-Mar, will honour two veterans of reggae music, John Holt and Marcia Griffiths.

Worrell King, head of the promoting company, King of Kings Promotions, says that the presentations will be made on the night of the event and is in celebration of their contribution to the development of reggae music over the years.

In addition, King told us that this year he will be changing the format somewhat to add Capleton for a younger generation who might have felt left out over since the event first started in 1988. Beres Hammond, he says, will be specially contracted for middle agers and Marcia and John for veterans.

"Doing this brings joy to my heart, however," he added. "Because it shows that the music is progressing to the extent where we can bring in younger acts, without worrying about losing the quality of the production."

Issachar's live performance

Dub Poet Issachar will be giving a live, in-concert performance of his poetry, along with Rassikela, Premphe and Ashanti Rebels and special guest Abijah on Saturday, March 31.

The event is titled, "Restoration of Consciousness," and will be held at the Fever Nite Club, Knutsford Boulevard, New Kingston.

Fifth Element's new Element rhythm will feature Capleton, Sizzla, Beenie Man, Chuck Fender, Mega Banton, Thriller U, Danny English, Jigsy King, Kirk Davis & Shadeo, Jah Thunder, Determine, J.K. and Shampelle.
