Kenny Spain, certified instructor from the Association of Energy Engineers, speaks to participants at the recent Comprehensive Training Programme for Energy Managers held by the Jamaica Public Service Company in Kingston. - ContributedJAMAICA PUBLIC Service Company (JPSCo.) recently hosted an internationally recognised training course for energy managers in the private and public sectors, to expose them to the latest energy management technologies.
The programme updated participants on the latest international trends and strategies necessary to build awareness and promote energy efficiency in developing countries.
The intense five-day course covered the full scope of technical and economic components of Energy Management, such as peak demand reduction, congeneration, life cycle costing and rate structure and analysis.
According to Cecil Gordon, participant from Jamaica Energy Partners, "This was an excellent opportunity to learn all aspects of energy management that are critical to our situation here in Jamaica. In addition, if we implement the energy efficiency methodologies which were taught, this country will certainly be on its way towards achieving optimal energy efficiency in a very short time."
This internationally recognised programme, was led by two certified instructors from the Atlanta based, Association of Energy Engineers, offered participants an opportunity to acquire the 'Certified Energy Manager' (CEM) designation, which is highly recognised worldwide.
Participants were drawn from JPSCo, Petroleum Corporation of Jamaica, Airports Authority of Jamaica, SuperClubs, Jamaica Energy Partners, National Water Commission, and Caribbean Cement Company, among others.
