German filmmakers shooting mini-series in Jamaica

GERMAN-BASED film makers, Bavaria Films, are shooting a six-part television mini-series in Jamaica. The shooting locations include the Norman Manley International Airport, The Friedrich Ebert Foundation on Old Hope Road, downtown Kingston on King Street, and St. Luke's Church Hall, Cross Roads.

The series is entitled The Semeling Affair to be broadcast in Germany as well as other parts of Europe. The plot is about a German official 'Sigi' who, together with his family, is sent to Jamaica on an assignment by his superiors.

The film features some home-grown talents, with principal roles going to Marsha-Ann Haye who plays the character of 'Catherine', a colleague at the German Foundation to which 'Sigi', played by German actor, Stefan Kurt, German, is assigned as head of theproduction.

Local talent

Jamaican actors figure prominently in the mini-series. Among them: Trevor Figuroa who plays a Jamaican politician, 'Porshus Thompson'; Teddy Price and Bobby Smith, hoteliers, who are both executives in a multi-national hotel chain. Winston (Bello) Bell plays the part of a customs officer at the Norman Manley International Airport.

The mini-series was written and directed by Dieter Wedel. Horst Meyer is the consultant in charge of production. Peter Packer is head of the Jamaican production team, which includes Natalie Thompson, assistant director, Kwesi Dickson, location manager, Arick Burke, transportation co-ordinator, Michael London, art director/props and Donna Hussey, production off-ice co-ordinator.

About 250 Jamaicans have been selected as extras.

The mini-series will include a A340 Airbus and performances from Cathi Levy Players.

On Friday, the film crew drew attention during their shoot of a busy day on Balmoral Avenue, in Kingston.

Filming began on Monday, March 12, and is to be completed at the end of this week.
