Big four in Headley semis

THE semi-finals of the ISSA Wilco/Headley Cup schoolboy cricket competition are set to get underway this morning at Port Esquivel and Alpart, both games starting at 10:30.

The games will be two innings affairs and will be contested over three days.

Defending champions St. Elizabeth Technical will face Vere Technical at Port Esquivel while former champions Holmwood and last year's beaten finalists York Castle will meet at Alpart.

All four teams topped their respective quarter-final groups to advance and the winners will advance to the April 2-4 final to be played at Alpart.

The Holmwood, York Castle game at Alpart should be interesting.

West Indies Under 15 all-rounder Xavier Marshall will lead the York Castle team against the Holmwood team that is virtually the Manchester Cricket Association's parish team in the Middlesex Senior Cup.

York Castle's batting will revolve around Marshall, Christopher Green, opening batsman Instowe Alexander and wicketkeeper Victor Barracks.

They will contend with the Holmwood bowling attack that will be led by spinners Odeen Brown, Andre Dwyer, David Powell and Arden Frew.

Opening batsmen Howard Jemieson and national Under 15 representative Chacon Chambers will lead the Holmwood attack that will also include Lancelot Warren, wicketkeeper Gary Graham, Brown and Frew.

Spinner Marshall will once again be the trump card for York Castle, pacer Vanroy Wallace and medium pacers Walconique Shirley and Deno Sewell.

The STETHS versus Vere game should be an interesting affair as both teams will be represented by a number of players with experience in Senior Cup competition.

Vere, fresh from a match where they scored 604 runs, should start favourites. Omar Campbell who scored an attacking 185 against Guy's Hill High will spearhead the batting for the Clarendon-based school.

National and West Indies 'A' batsman Brenton Parchment will lead the STETHS batting.
