Boys' Town Campbell blasts century

A JDF batsman plays defensively during the Rothmans Surrey Senior Cup against Lucas yesterday at Up Park Camp.

BOYS' Town topline batsman Omar A. Campbell with an attacking 132 highlighted the opening day's play in the seventh round of the Rothmans Surrey Senior Cup competition yesterday.

Meanwhile, Kensington gained first innings points over Portland at Kensington Park yesterday, thanks to legspinner Kevin Peart who bagged six Portland wickets for 38 runs.

In other matches, leaders Lucas were in a good position to take first innings points from Jamaica Defence Force at Camp, while defending champions Melbourme were well placed to take first innings points from Tivoli at Seprod Oval. In the other remaining match, Police replying to St. Catherine's 282 for eight declared were 32 for two.

AT KENSINGTON PARK: Portland 113 (Cecil Lewis 32, Floyd Johnson and Emelio Reid 17 each; Kevin Peart 6-38, Darren Powell 2-23). Kensington 185 for four (Openers Glenmore Hall 68 and Brenton Parchment 59 posted a 101 opening partnership; Maurice Kepple 34 not out; Darren Gray 3-61).

From a position of 65 for two, Portland found the bowling of former Jamaica Under-19 Player Kevin Peart too much and when Carl Brissset was bowled by Peart for zero, the writing was on the wall.

AT CAMP: Jamaica Defence Force 219 (Wayne Cuff 95, Howard Copeland 42, Omar Ellington 25, Ernel Smith 19 not out; Ashuman Kentish 3-38, Omar Burke 3-74, Andrew Gayle 2-15, Gareth Breese 2-64). Lucas 147 for four (Royan Smith 46, Delroy Morgan 34 not out, Breese 30, Oniel Powell 21; Ellington 2-47).

AT SEPROD OVAL: Tivoli 165 (Rohan Britton 47, Gary Pink 44, Omar Hamilton 25, Shaniel Francis 18; Dwayne Cooper 5-47). Melbourne 102 for two.

AT PORT ESQUIVEL: St Catherine 282 for eight declared (Keith Hibbert 58, Tamar Lambert 51, Barrington Bartley Jr. 49; Timmy Thomas 5-118). Police 32 for two.

AT GOODYEAR OVAL: Boys' Town topline batsman Omar A. Campbell highlighted play with an attacking century (132) against home team St. Thomas. Scores - Boys' Town 280; St. Thomas 181 for 6.

In addition to Campbell, Shane Powell made 46 for Boys' Town, Alex Ranger 26 and Marlon Keating 24. Bowling for St. Thomas, former national player Bryan Murphy with 6 for 82 from 24 overs was the most successful bowler. Despite a good start, the St. Thomas batting collapsed with Orlando Jemmison 34, Rohan McNaught 20, Chris Morgan 18, Huton Sutherland 11 and Rohan Chang 0 all back in the pavilion. Phillip Keating has so far taken 4 for 74.

AT JARRETT PARK: Westmoreland 338 for six (Chris Miller 97, Damion Davidson 79 and Raul Wynter 51 as they dominated the St. James bowling on a good batting strip.Owen Burke led the St James bowling with three for 43 while Ryan Wong had two for 66. St. James were 28 without loss at the close.
