Letter of the Day Ja the Carib jewel, but...

THE EDITOR, Sir:

AS BEAUTIFUL as Jamaica is, it would not be my first choice as a tourist. As a people we are, in general, very friendly and accommodating. But there exists a minority that creates fear and resentment to ourselves, so how can we expect visitors to enjoy this kind of behaviour, which would not be tolerated from whence they came.

As is more than obvious, there is a total breakdown of law and order in Jamaica. The buck stops at the HEAD OF THE TABLE. Mr. Tatham has got the cheek of the devil to try and downplay the gravity of the situation, and that may be a sure sign he needs to be working in another industry. Why compare ourselves with the next worse destination, when we should be endeavouring to be numero uno?

Jamaica is the jewel of the Caribbean, but we are not the premier nation, and that is looking from the top down. Guess what, there are an incalculable number of Jamaicans, at this point in time, for numerous reasons, who have changed their minds about coming to Jamaica, either as tourists or returning residents. Can anyone blame them? Please do something to encourage rather than deter visitors. It is in our best interests.

I am etc.,
