WESTERN BUREAU:
AMERICAN TALK show host, Jerry Springer, will be the chief judge at the finals next Thursday of the Jerry Springer dance contest, being organised by the Hedonism II resort, in Negril.
The first in the series of dance-offs was held over the weekend at Jungles, Negril's newest night spot. Others are set for the Club 2000 in May Pen tonight and Margueritaville tomorrow night. Dance-offs will also be held at Asylum, in Kingston and Amnesia, Ocho Rios at dates to be announced.
"A male and a female winner will be chosen by each club, making a total of 10 finalists who will go on to the finals. The response has been tremendous," said Rohan McLeod, the hotel's entertainment manager.
Five male and five female finalists will be chosen for the finals at Hedonism II on Thursday, April 19, at which Jerry Springer will be chief judge.
Among the prizes for the winners will be two airline tickets to Nassau, Bahamas and accommodation at Breezes Bahamas resort.
"The Jerry Springer team feels this is an excellent idea. They are overjoyed and impressed that our people named a popular dance move after their celebrity and are looking forward to learning the moves themselves", said Marc Upton Smith, public relations manager of Hedonism II.
The Jerry Springer dance move, coined by the talented and innovative dancer 'Bogle', made its creator famous at dance sessions and stage shows during May, 1999. Screechie and Pop Yuh Collar dances, also created by Bogle, followed. And although Bogle's latest dance move Zip It Up, is all the craze with the young people, he is looking forward to revamping the Jerry Springer with a lot of zest come April 19.
"I am a true Jerry Springer fan, I watch his show every morning religiously. It will be an honour to meet the man," Bogle told The Gleaner.
In giving a guideline as to the moves for the Jerry Springer dance, Bogle said it was easy: "Hands in the air, shoulder a move, waist a move, foot a move, body must be flexible, not stiff to manoeuvre all the intricacies involved in the dance".
He said he created the dance while in Hollywood flexing with a group of 'High Rollers'.
"Dem say, bust the dance up yah nuh, but I say I nah bust no dance a foreign", Bogle told The Gleaner.
