- Contributed

Arsenio Calderon and Arlene Richards in 'Steal Away' by Bert Rose, from the NDTC repertoire.

MORNING of Movement And Music, the popular annual act of worship mounted by the National Dance Theatre Company is set for 6:00 a.m. today at the Little Theatre. Patrons are asked to be in their seats by 5:45 a.m.

The programme will cover compositions by Bach and Beethoven as well as Franklyn Halliburton and Noel Dexter, Grub Cooper and Marjorie Whylie, whose classic creations for dances like I Not I and Ni Woman of Destiny (dance-works choreographed by Sheila Barnett) will be sung by the NDTC Singers under the direction of Miss Whylie.

She will also lead the orchestra comprising Minky Jefferson and Kamau Khalfani on the flute, Tony Holness on the trumpet, Wigmoor Francis on the bass guitar and Tanagari Manning on the guitar with Paul Green, Adrian Locke and Jesse Golding on the drums.

The black spiritual His Eye On The Sparrow will be sung by tenor Carl Bliss, while Earl Brown (bass) will lead sopranos Carole Reid, Paula Johnson and Louraine Emmanuel, contraltos Dawn Phillips, Dulcie Bogues and Helen Christian and tenors Howard Cooper, Damion Evans, Wesley Scott and Carl Bliss, as well as Charles Wright and Kenneth Runcie in Hold Fast. It is a 1970s' reggae composition danced by NDTC young bloods Natalie Chong, David Blake and Kevin Moore.

The morning will present the dance-works of newer choreographers like Arlene Richards, Monica Lawrence and Arsenio Andrade along with works-in-progress by Clive Thompson and artistic director Rex Nettleford. Featured dancers include Arlene Richards and Carol Orane; Arsenio Andrade and Kerry-Ann Henry, as well as Natalie Chong with a cast of NDTC's new generation dancers. They recently took Miami audiences by storm in sold-out houses for the Caribbean Dance Celebrations sponsored by Jamaica Awareness Inc. of Florida.
