DIEHARD MOTOR sport lovers are expected to turn out in their droves tomorrow afternoon to witness the big showdown between the RX7 Mazdas and Mitsubishi Evolution cars at island's premier racing circuit, Dover Raceway in St. Ann
"I believe there will be some good races and close finishes because the RX7s and Evolutions are doing identical times, there's going to be showdown," said Larry Henriques, the man behind the promotion of the 2001 Prochamps series.
The level of competition last year has left fans with some fine memories. Things are looking much brighter this year as the promoters have invited a number of overseas competitors from with region and North America.
"Two drivers from the United States will be on show tomorrow afternoon," said Henriques.
Last season's championship produced keen rivalries between Peter Moodie Jnr, and Christopher 'Chippy' Addison in IP3, Peter Rae and Ishmael Moodie, MP3, Neil Gore Jnr and Charles Phillips in IP2 and MP2; Chad Phillips and Chris Smellie, IPO. From all accounts the drivers have been gearing up to see a changing of the guard this year.
Among the drivers expected to shine are veteran rally driver Gary Gregg, Peter Moodie Jnr, Doug Gore, Addison, Peter Rae, David Summberbell Jnr and Willie Willon.
For the year 2001, Prochamps has cut the season to four race meets in an effort to streamline its operations.
