A bold initiative

THE EDITOR, Sir:

I READ with great pleasure your editorial in The Gleaner of Tuesday, March 27, 2001.

This bold initiative to redevelop the community of Allman Town is to be lauded. It is the vision of the police, that we may have crime-free communities in Kingston Central. With this in mind, we have been working through the police youth clubs, consultative committees, schools and neighbourhood watch groups to help in bridging the gap between the police and the communities.

We are therefore extremely happy that The Gleaner has decided to co-ordinate the efforts of the various groups working to redevelop the Allman Town Community.

You have our full support and please feel free to call upon us for any assistance we may be able to offer to ensure the project's success.

I am, etc.,

H. BECKFORD

Deputy Superintendent of Police

i/c Operations

Kingston Central Division.
