The Go-Local community web sites are all about positive vibes -- showcasing those positive behind-the scenes events that usually don't get air play.
The web sites are community based and educational highlights are a big part of the content. They feature schools from the primary, secondary and tertiary levels. Dinthill Technical High School in Linstead is the first to capture the opportunity to expose the talents of eager young minds. Students from the school will have their articles published on the "educational highlights" page of the Go-Portmore web site, www.Go-Portmore.com.
It was at the Gleaner's Youth Link launch party (Saturday, March 24) that the Go-Local/Dinthill Journalism Club relationship began. Representatives from the school were among the members of the crowd, which kept the vibes going.
The Dinthill Technical High School "Optimist and Journalism Club" was launched at the school on Tuesday 20th March and was powered with much enthusiasm from members and coordinators alike.
The club is a combination of the youth arm of the Optimist Club (Octagon Club) and the Gleaner's Youth Link Journalism club.
The Optimist arm is service oriented and is geared towards the development of young minds. The journalism arm on the other hand, will promote writing talents in students and according to club teacher Tanya Bloomfield; the combination of the two clubs has made a tantalizing potpourri. "The students are excited about becoming a part of these worthwhile ventures. They see such an opportunity as one, which will give them the chance to have a voice in their society. I am sure that they are looking forward to having their best pieces published in Go-Portmore," she said. Other teachers involved in the club are Juanita Gordon and Monica White.
The nature of the relationship between Go-Local and Dinthill is such that eager students of the journalism club, anxious to explore their creative potentials, will get an opportunity to showcase their work on our latest web site for the St. Catherine community, www.Go-Portmore.com. The web site features local events and happenings, business profiles, educational highlights and, of course, fun and games.
Each week, the educational page features a high as well as prep school in St. Catherine. It's a great opportunity for schools, especially those, which aren't usually in the limelight to inform the public of the positive things that are happening at their schools.
We therefore invite students in Kingston, St. Andrew and St. Catherine
to send us those creative articles/essays/
poems you're dying to get published. Look out for your article each week on the education page.
Articles from students in Kingston and St. Andrew will be published on the Go-Kingston site at www.Go-Kingston.com.
