Cassava and jerk win over food experts

Enid Donaldson-Mignotte

The cassava wafers soaked in coconut cream and the jerk fish got their attention but the Reggae Planters Punch and Blue Mountain coffee won their hearts.

The plentiful and popular ripe banana fritters, the poster of colourful Jamaican fruits and a ceramic replica of Bob Marley relaxing in the snow on a bandana square also had the power to pull scores of people to the Jamaican booth at the International Cuisine Festival in Quebec City, Quebec, Canada.

The event took place March 23 to 25 and brought together about 150 agri food exhibitors from Canada and more than 250 participants for the International Culinary Competitions. About a third of the participants came from various countries.

Jamaica was invited to participate by the Secretariat of the third Summit of the Americans in collaboration with the corporation des restaurateurs de Quebec Canada.

Jamaica shared the area alloted to the Americans with Argentina, Bahamas, Chile, Colombia, Dominican Republic and Mexico.

The demonstration was enjoyed by young and
old as many returned with friends to see and taste the Jamaican goodies.
