ST JOHN'S, CANA:
THE West Indies predictably recalled hard-hitting middle order batsman Ricardo Powell for the first two games of the seven-match One-Day International cricket series against South Africa which starts at Sabina Park in Jamaica on Saturday.
Also gaining selection in the 14-member squad named by the West Indies Cricket Board (WICB) yesterday, are young Antiguan seam bowler Kerry Jeremy and Jamaica's diminutive opener Leon Garrick.
Powell, a dashing 22-year-old right-hander has played in only one Test for the Windies but has been a regular member of the One-day team with 44 matches after gaining a late call-up for the 1999 World Cup in England.
Jeremy, 21, toured Australia with the Test squad but was not chosen for the triangular series "Down Under" against the hosts and Zimbabwe earlier this year.
He has played a solitary One-Day match against Sri Lanka at Nairobi in the 2000 ICC Knockout series.
The squad: Carl Hooper (captain), Chris Gayle, Leon Garrick, Shivnarine Chanderpaul, Brian Lara, Ricardo Powell, Wavell Hinds, Marlon Samuels, Ridley Jacobs, Neil McGarrell, Mervyn Dillon, Cameron Cuffy, Kerry Jeremy, Nixon McLean.
