Homosexuality is a curse

THE EDITOR, Sir:

IT IS with great concern that we observe the silence of those who have been promoting " values and attitudes", and in particular the clergy, to the statements made recently by Dr. Peter Figueroa, that promote the decriminalisation of homosexuality.

Dr. Figueroa's suggestions that to legalise homosexuality will curb the spread of HIV/AIDS is utter rubbish, and is tantamount to believing that legalising ganja will reduce the number of smokers.

Nothing could be further from the truth, and such statements can only propagate promiscuity and immorality. The good doctor, in his capacity as Chief Medical Officer of Jamaica, needs to be informed that homosexuality is a curse.

The scriptures are very clear on this in the book of Romans, chapter 1, verses 16 to 32, and I quote verse 24, "Wherefore God also gave them up to uncleanness through the lusts of their own hearts, to dishonour their own bodies between themselves." Read also verses 26 and 27, "For this cause God gave them up unto vile affections: for even their women, did change the natural use into that which is against nature: and likewise also the men, leaving the natural use of the woman, burned in their lust one toward another: men working that which is unseemly, and receiving in themselves that recompence of their error which was meet."

I would have hoped that especially at a time such as this, when the nation is in great moral decline, that those in positions of authority would be more careful in their public pronouncements.

I am etc.,
