Reconnection politics and empty promises

THE EDITOR, Sir:

THE PEOPLE'S National Party in a recent statement soon after the NE St. Ann By-Election, claimed that they are going to reconnect with the people. Although not knowing the method of reconnection that they proposed to use, I hope their methods are practical.

I know of a small community that predominantly votes for the PNP at every election and the major concern of these residents who are poor, are food, water and proper roads.

Not houses and land.

Shortly after the last general election, empty promises of roads and water came repeatedly from the Councillors and Member of Parliament for the area, until shamefacedly, I believe they abandoned the area, hence their reason for now wanting to reconnect to the people.

People are now becoming enlightened and no longer are impressed by sweet words and promises and if the present government really wants to reconnect to the people, they need to act and it has to be now because time is running out on them. Other than that, they need to start packing their bags.

I am, etc.,
