THE EDITOR, Sir:
THE NATIONAL Democratic Movement is deeply concerned that one of the major and significant groups of Jamaicans, in whose lives the JPSCo power outages have wreaked major dislocations are students, who at this time need to prepare for the CXC examinations which commence this month.
As spokesperson on Education and of course, the NDM in general, we have been inundated with cries of distress from parents, whose children are experiencing serious difficulties preparing for the CXC examinations, in the absence of a reliable, constant electricity supply from the JPSCo.
On behalf of the CXC students, I now call on the JPSCo not only to become sensitive to the dire hardships now faced by CXC students and to do all in its power to discontinue these power outages, but also to give a credible assurance in this regard.
However, more importantly and in the interest of transparency and accountability, I call on the government, who was the 'head cook and bottle washer' in the negotiations and administration of the sale of JPSCo, to not only 'come clean' to the nation considering that far too much about the JPSCo sale is shrouded in secrecy but to exercise its influence to bring a closure to the series of power outages.
I call on the government to act, and act now after all, are they not now in the business of identifying and showcasing a list of their 'solid achievements'?
I am, etc.,
