Telephone competition good for Ja

THE EDITOR, Sir:

WHAT DO you get when you cross a Cable & Wireless Jamaica with a Digicel? Competition, attempts to offer better service, better economic handling, and of course innovation.

This very lesson applies to the world of politics, a new player just a single viable alternative within the arena, can shake up even the most lethargic, complacent and unwilling monopoly.

The country needs more diversity in its industries. The country cannot continue to operate as a haven for monopolies that secure suspicious long-term agreements that deliver minimal returns to the people.

The world is a market, and Jamaica is being left behind as evolution continues around us.

The desperate attempt of Cable and Wireless to secure its market share by attempting to offer improved services was not as apparent when no competition existed. Now that they have tried to work with the cunning and alacrity that they should have been operating with in the first place albeit, now under the pressure of a 'new kid on the block' see how the mighty have fallen?

This simply proves the old saying. You never miss the water 'til the well run dry.

I am etc.,

JERRY
