THE JAMAICA Cricket Board of Control's all-island limited-overs championship will have a new name this season.
According to information coming out of the JCBC, Sandals, sponsors since 1994, will no longer be sponsoring the tournament which is scheduled to get underway on Saturday, June 9.
The board's chief executive officer, Brian Breese, confirmed yesterday Sandals had pulled out and the board was negotiating with a potential sponsor.
"We are pretty sure there will be a new sponsor, but whatever happens, the competition is on and will start as planned," said Breese.
The 21 teams - 11 from the Surrey Senior Cup, five from the Middlesex Senior Cup, and five from the Cornwall Senior Cup - have been divided into four groups.
The teams in each group will play each other once, and the four winners will move into the semi-finals scheduled for Saturday, July 21, with the two winners contesting the final on Saturday, July 28.
The groups: Group A - defending champions St. Ann, St. James, Trelawny, Tivoli, Police; Group B - Manchester, Lucas, Hanover, Jamaica Defence Force, St. Catherine Parish; Group C - St. Catherine CC, Kingston CC, Boys' Town, St. Elizabeth, Clarendon, St. Thomas; Group D - Melbourne, Kensington, St. Mary, Westmoreland, Portland.
First-round matches: Group A - St. James versus St. Ann at Jarrett Park, Trelanwy versus Police at Elletson Wakeland; Group B - Manchester versus St. Catherine Parish at Kirkvine, Lucas versus JDF at Nelson Oval; Group C - St. Catherine CC versus Clarendon at Chedwin Park, St. Thomas versus Kingston CC at Goodyear Oval, Boys' Town versus St. Elizabeth at Collie Smith Drive; Group D - Melbourne versus Westmoreland at Melbourne Oval, Portland versus Kensington at Folly.
The first round of the County Championship, to be contested by defending champions Melbourne, Kingston CC, Middlesex, Cornwall, Surrey Senior Cup 1 and Surrey Senior Cup 2, is scheduled for Saturday and Sunday, August 11 and 12.
