Keep our children pure

THE EDITOR, Sir:

I AM a Jamaican living in the United States, and I am concerned about the level of violence in Jamaica. I think it has something to do with the materialistic culture that Jamaica has taken on. We do everything that the United States does, and the US is not a good role model. We need to instill in our children from a very young age that brand name labels will not get them anywhere.

Unless they have an education or a good skill they will live a life of poverty.

In the US the children on welfare are the ones always wearing brand name garments. Their parents will spend $200 dollars on a pair of sneakers but they are unable to pay rent or even provide basic necessities.

My point is: if we would work hard and don't crave everything everybody else has we would not be having this problem.

Some of the young high school girls are selling themselves to buy the latest outfits. I am concerned about even the young boys who are finding themselves in compromising positions with homosexual men, all because of money. The nation and the churches need to come together, unite and fight to keep our young children pure.

I am etc.,
