CASTRIES, St. Lucia, CANA:
THE All Jamaica Business League netball team defeated a St. Lucian under-23 team 58-42 to secure their second consecutive victory at the Vigie Multi-Purpose Sports Complex here Tuesday night.
The Jamaican team which defeated a President's team 45-40 on Monday, was again piloted by a magnificent display by the tall goal shooter Suzette Desouza, who netted 53 of her 58 attempts at goal. Goal attack Samantha Robinson shot five of 11.
For the St. Lucians, who are preparing for next week's Organisation of Eastern Caribbean States (OECS) under-23 championships in Antigua, goal shooter Melissa John scored 35 of 39 attempts.
Goal attack Melissa Alfred successfully shot all of her four attempts, while Wendy Dorvis, the second goal attack employed by the home team, netted three of her four tries.
The All Jamaica Business league team led at all quarters 18-13, 29-22, 45-33.
"It was a very good game for us despite the defeat because the level of play by the Jamaicans is very high. I asked the girls to target at least 40 goals and they did it. This is good competition before they leave for Antigua," president of the St. Lucian Netball Association, Fortuna Belrose told CANA.
The All Jamaican Business League team will wrap up its tour of St. Lucia with another match against the under-23s tonight at the Dennery Multi-Purpose court on the island's west coast.
