Revenue figures for April up

PROVISIONAL FIGURES for April show that the Government bettered its revenue budget by almost 10 per cent.

The budget projections for the month were $6.1 billion, but the provisional outturn was $6.7 billion, a difference of $612.6 million or 9.9 per cent. This was $975.4 million or 16.8 per cent above the revenues for April, 2000, which stood at $5.8 billion.

Of the amount, total tax revenue stood at $6.3 billion, which was $815.2 million or 14.6 per cent above the budget projection of $5.5 billion and $1.2 billion or 24.4 per cent above the 2000 figure of $5.1 billion.

Negative figures were recorded in bauxite/alumina, tax on interest and betting, gambling and lottery revenues.

The figures were provided by the Minister of Finance, Dr. Omar Davies. The Minister had promised Opposition Spokesman on Industry and Commerce, Karl Samuda, in the House of Representatives last week, to provide the figures on a monthly basis.
