Publishing and responsibility

THE EDITOR, Sir:

I AM sometimes wondering if you are aware of the responsibility that you as publisher of Jamaica's biggest newspaper have.

The first time I wondered was when you published the story on prescription medication being sold by higglers on the street. You described in detail what is available and what to treat with it, sure enough driving more people to go and buy their medication on the street instead of a pharmacy.

Now you headline that most of the police's breathalysers are not working. I am sure that not a few drivers will now drive under the influence of alcohol, simply because they know that the police cannot test them. That will make Jamaica's streets even more dangerous and people might get hurt. Some news better stay unpublished.

I am etc.,
