Politicians and crime

THE EDITOR, Sir:

THE RECENT upsurge of violence in our beloved country has taken a toll on those of us wanting to return to the country to live or visit. How can we ever get the zeal to come back and give back when we are afraid of getting killed? Why would we want to establish businesses in our communities when the sight of new construction means wealth which unfortunately will get you kidnapped, raped or murdered?

When will the politicians stop promoting violence by claiming specific areas as their territory? When will they stop the import of guns that will eventually end their own lives? What does it take for our so-called leaders to be aware that they are the ones responsible?

I know myriads of Jamaicans who are in fear of their own lives and that of their loved ones who have vowed never to 'set foot back on the so-called 'land we love'. Jamaicans want better and that is why they do the things they do.

It is full time our government realises this and put the effort in advancing the quality of life for our people by doing just what they were elected to do in the first place - to serve the people.

I am etc.,
