Take greater care in preparing land documents - Mullings

Millings

ABOUT 89 per cent of the applications for titles were rejected during 2000-2001 by the Land Titles division of the Ministry of Land and the Environment, Minister Seymour Mullings told the House of Representatives, yesterday.

Mr. Mullings said that the division issued just over 20,000 new certificates, made 94,664 endorsements to existing titles and conducted 188,896 title searches, collecting $146.6 million in the process. But, he said, achievements of the division would have been greater if documents submitted by professionals were properly completed.

"I urge professionals to take greater responsibility in the preparation of documents for processing," he said during his contribution to the Sectoral Debate in the House.

Mr. Mullings also revealed that 53 per cent of all plans submitted to the Survey Department by private land surveyors, had to be returned for amendment and resubmission.

"I implore professionals to exercise due care in the completion of documents for procession," he stated.

Mr. Mullings pointed out that the new executive agency, the National Land Agency, had absorbed the former Office of Titles, the Survey, Land Valuation, Lands and Estates Management departments.

He said that the merger would enable the Government to provide more efficient services, including the start of an online network to enable all government agencies, local government and private sector organisations to share land and marine related data.
